Name changed 5 October 2026: Attune is now I Can Wait. Only the name and the words around it changed; your rights and our obligations did not.
The I Can Wait website is icanwait.com.au (formerly attunematchmaking.com).
What I Can Wait does
- Matching requires a passed check that you are a real person. Usually that is the camera check, which asks for a short randomised sequence and assesses the submitted frames; for someone who can't use the camera, it is a person who sees them in person or on a live video call. Either can make mistakes and is not a guarantee that someone is genuine.
- An age check before introductions. After the camera challenge, an AI model estimates the member's age range from one picture. If the estimate is confidently 25 or older they pass without showing ID; face estimates are approximate, which is why the margin is well above 18. Otherwise, or if they skip the estimate, the interview and introductions stay closed until a person reviews the member's camera pictures and, if needed, checks photo ID: in person, on a live call, or from a photo of their licence uploaded in the app when asked. Review pictures and requested licence photos are stored privately. We request deletion when the check is decided; undecided pictures are scheduled for removal after 14 days, and failed storage cleanup is retried. We do not extract document numbers or birth dates into separate account fields. See the privacy notice for retention and provider details. Do not email ID. If you can't use the camera check, press "I can't use the camera check" and a person will email you to arrange another way: in person or on a live video call, where they look at your original photo ID. See age checks. This process can make mistakes.
- Grooming, sextortion and image-based abuse are banned. That includes building trust with a child or young person to exploit them, threatening to share intimate images unless someone pays or sends more, and sharing or threatening to share intimate images without consent, real or fake. Report it with one of the first four reasons on the report form, such as "Intimate images shared or threatened without consent" or "Sexual content or exploitation involving a child": the pair is blocked straight away, and a person reviews it and can suspend the account. See the community guidelines.
- Report and block from a match or conversation. A successfully submitted report closes the chat for you: you can still read it, but not send in it, and a person reviews the report. If you report a threat or violence, intimate images shared or threatened without consent, someone who appears to be under 18, or sexual content involving a child, they are also blocked straight away. Check the confirmation: a connection or storage failure can prevent the action from completing. If the report limit is reached, the response tells you whether blocking succeeded and that the new report was not saved.
- Reports enter a moderator queue. Do not rely on an in-app report for an emergency response. We never tell the person you report who reported them. They may be able to guess, for example if your conversation with them closes.
- Blocking applies in both directions within I Can Wait. A blocked pair cannot receive further introductions to each other or send each other messages on I Can Wait; if you reported the person, you can still read your conversation with them. It cannot remove information already copied or prevent contact through other services.
- Your profile is not browsable. There is no directory, no swiping, no way to look you up. People are shown to each other only when the matching proposes it.
- Unwanted sexual messages. If someone sends sexual messages you don't want, you don't have to reply. Report or block them from the conversation. I Can Wait doesn't allow images in chat. Never send intimate images to someone you haven't met, and if anyone threatens to share images of you, report it to us and to eSafety.
- Optional personal answers are not shown to matches. Your taps in the optional intimacy section are read by I Can Wait itself and are not sent to AI services. Anything you type on those cards is saved for you and not read; if you write about intimacy in a correction to your report, that is sent to AI services like your other answers. Matches may see an overall intimacy compatibility level, but not your individual preferences. If you opt in to the questions about your upbringing, those answers are sent to AI services only to write your own private report. See Privacy for how information is handled.
What we cannot do, stated plainly
We would rather tell you this than let you assume otherwise.
- An age check is not a safety guarantee. An AI age estimate is approximate and can be wrong, and neither it nor sighting photo ID establishes someone's intentions, history or trustworthiness.
- The camera check can be fooled. We have not established its resistance to recorded video or face manipulation in real-device testing. Passing it does not establish that someone is safe to meet.
- We do not run criminal background checks.
- We do not verify whether someone is single.
- Compatibility is not character. Scoring 90 means someone answered questions in a way that fits yours. It says nothing about whether they are kind, honest or safe.
Meeting someone
- Meet in public, the first few times. Somewhere with staff and other people.
- Tell someone where you are going, who with, and when you expect to be back. Share your live location if your phone does that.
- Arrange your own transport, both ways. Do not be reliant on them to get home.
- Keep the first meeting short. An hour is plenty, and it is much easier to leave something you framed as brief.
- Watch your drink. Order it yourself, see it poured, keep it with you.
- Consider a video call first if you are comfortable. It may help you get to know someone, but a call is not proof of identity or safety. I Can Wait does not currently provide video calls.
- Leave whenever you want. You owe nobody an explanation, politeness, or a second hour.
Signs worth taking seriously
- Requests for money, loans, gift cards or crypto, including supposed emergencies or investments. Do not send money to someone you have only met online. See Scamwatch’s relationship-scam guidance.
- Pressure to move to another app or platform immediately.
- Refusing to video call while always having a reason.
- Pressing for your address, workplace or financial details early.
- Anger or guilt when you say no to something small. That is information.
Report anything in this list. You do not need to be certain, and you will not be wasting our time.
If something happens
- If you are in immediate danger, call 000.
- Report them in the app. Use the report control on a match or conversation and check that it succeeded. You can also block separately. If the report cannot be saved, contact support; do not rely on I Can Wait for an emergency response.
- Keep the messages. After you report someone you can still open your conversation with them and read it, but not send in it. Anything they send after your report is not shown to you. While a report is open we keep the messages as evidence, even if the other person deletes their account.
- Tell us anything else at [email protected].
- No account? You can still report. You don't need an account to report something that happened on I Can Wait. Email [email protected] with "Report" in the subject, and say what you saw and where.
