We want I Can Wait to be usable by everyone. This page says where it stands, including the parts that are not good enough yet — a statement that only lists the wins is not worth reading.
What we aim at
WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We have not been independently audited against it and we will not claim conformance we have not tested.
What works today
- The whole app runs as text and forms — no drag, no swipe gesture, nothing that needs a steady hand or a mouse.
- Designed for keyboard use, with visible focus outlines. We have not tested every screen with a keyboard alone, so tell us where it fails.
- Every interview question can be answered by typing, by choosing from a list, or both.
- Text reflows down to a phone screen with no sideways scrolling.
- We try never to use colour as the only way to show something.
- Text scales with your browser or system setting.
- These information pages are plain HTML and work without JavaScript.
Known problems
Being specific about these is the point of the page.
- The age check uses a camera and head movement. It asks you to turn your head and smile. If the AI age estimate does not pass you, or you skip it, a person reviews your check and can confirm your age from photo ID: in person, on a live video call on Google Meet, or from a photo of your licence. If you can't use it, press "I can't use the camera check" on the camera screen. Choose the option that fits (you don't need to tell us why) and add a note if you like. A person emails you within 2 business days to arrange another way to check your age: in person, or on a live video call on Google Meet, where they look at your original photo ID and do not keep a copy. The link for the call comes by email from our admin address, and the call is not recorded. If you would rather, you can upload a photo of your licence in the app when they ask, and they compare it with you on a call or in person. A licence photo is never the only way. Never email ID. Only our admins, who check ages, see the option you chose and your note, and both are deleted when your age check is decided. This route is new and has not yet been used by a member.
- The interview is long. Nineteen questions to start, ten more about raising children if you want, are open to or have children, and optional parts after that. That is demanding for anyone with fatigue, pain, or concentration difficulty. Your progress is saved and you can leave and come back at any point.
- Screen-reader testing has been limited. We have not tested thoroughly with NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver, so some labels are likely to be wrong or missing.
- Colour contrast has not been measured across every screen against the AA threshold.
- There is no captioning or transcript feature, because there is no audio or video content yet.
If something blocks you
Write to [email protected] and say what you were trying to do and what stopped you. If a check is what is blocking you, say so — we would rather find another way to get you in than lose you to a step that was not designed with you in mind.
We treat accessibility reports the same as any other bug: something to fix, not a favour.
